Matters of the Heart

Tomorrow is Valentine’s Day –  a day some love, loathe, and for some is very lucrative. (The National Retail Federation reports $19.7 billion dollars is spent. Wow!) Despite your feelings about this bittersweet day, it undoubtedly brings to surface matters of the heart.

The heart is regarded as the seat of our emotions, thoughts, and actions. Life deals us highs and lows. Birthdays and weddings accompany farewells and foreclosures.  The joy and pain of life directly impact our heart posture.  If we are not intentional, unprocessed pain can take up residence in our hearts resulting in poor heart conditions – callousness, hardness, or sorrow.

Pain should not fester in anyone’s heart. Cheerios puts it best, “your heart matters and should be healthy.”

If you or someone you know is struggling with matters of the heart, perhaps the tips below can lead you (or them) back to a whole and healthy heart.

  1. Pain Release

    1. A productive activity like writing or talking (to the right source) can work wonders. It releases negativity and allows positivity to come in.

  2. Act of Love

    1. A small gesture (a phone call, gift, help, hug, or kind word) can move mountains in someone’s heart.

Reflecting on the sore spots in our hearts and intentionally applying a strategy puts us on the path to heart health.
