“I will fight for those who cannot fight for themselves.”
– Diana, Princess of Themyscira
Wonder Woman is worth the trip to the theater. The remake of the classic tale of the Amazon princess on a mission to save the world and stop evil had so nuggets to chew on.
Identity, courage, and leadership were a few but one of my greatest observations was Diana’s ability to FOCUS. She was a determined shero who concentrated until her mission was completed.
Allow me to share my insights about the qualities she possessed that allowed her to remain focused that may help you too.
1. Mission Mindset
- Diana believed in herself. She knew her life’s mission and what her purpose was. She stated it very plainly that it was her “sacred duty to defend the world.” She did not waver in who she was but confidently stated, “I am Diana, princess of Themyscira, daughter of Hippolyta.” She owned her greatness.
- Diana was proactive. She didn’t wait for Ares to find her. She went out to find and conquer him.
2. Training & Preparation
- Diana didn’t just wake up one day and rush to defend the world and kill the god of war. She was trained. From a young age, she watched her mother and the other Amazon warriors train in the event of invasion. Even against the wishes of her mother, she watched and secretly practiced.
- She was a reader and acquired knowledge. Books allowed her access to the world she had yet to be a participant in. When she entered into that world, she was equipped to handle it.
3. Team- Oriented
- Diana did not pursue her mission alone. She understood that infamous motto “together everyone achieves more.” She had great comrades to fight alongside her, guide her into new territory, and help her to maintain her focus amidst minor distractions.
4. Perseverance
- Wonder Woman was determined! She had chutzpah. You could see it in her eyes. They were fierce and ready. During the big showdown at the end of the movie with Ares, Diana did not give up. In the midst of her obvious challenges, she refocused, restrategized, and got back up again.
5. Grace
- Even though she was a warrior, she operated with grace. She graciously led her comrades in the mission to stop the evil plans that were being put in place to kill thousands.
Mindset, preparation, teamwork, perseverance, and grace all came together to help Diana maintain focus and fulfill her mission. Those same things can help you fulfill yours too.
