A Quick Fix for Overcoming Procrastination

We can probably all agree that procrastination is the enemy to productivity.  Statistics show that procrastination affects up to 20 % of the population.  There are a variety of reason why people procrastinate. Stress, lack of motivation, lack of resources, or even fear. If you are among that 20% do not beat yourself up or feel bad, we all have been there at one point or another. I’d like to share three quick fixes that may help you overcome this unproductive habit and help you get back on track to reaching your goals.

  1. Exercise the two-minute rule.

If it takes less than two minutes to complete, do not add it to your to-do list. Just do it. You will see movement towards your goal. It may be small but as they say, “you eat an elephant one bite at a time.” Some progress is better than no progress.

     2. Create an action plan.

An action plan outlines the smaller, necessary tasks needed to complete a larger project, goal, or vision. Make a list of the tasks you have to complete. Prioritize your list by date and tackle the list one step at a time.

      3. Get an accountability partner.

Just as there is safety in numbers, there is safety in accountability. Keep a responsible partner or group informed on your progress on a project or goal fosters more commitment than going solo.

Don’t let procrastination rob your of seeing your goals manifest before your eyes. Choose one of the strategies above and put it into focused action. Want to know more about overcoming procrastination? Get you copy of Focus today.
